Men’s Golf Erases Week Old Record in Day One of Matlock Classic

LAKELAND, Fla. (Men’s Golf) – Florida Tech fired a 36-hole program record 576 Monday at the Matlock Collegiate Classic and enters the final round tied for first with Barry at the par-72 Lone Palm Golf Club. The Panthers’ opening day score erases last Monday’s score of 580, which was a new 36-hole low for the program.   

As a team, FIT shot a two-under-par 286 in round one. It followed that effort with a two-over 290 to finish the day at even.

Sunshine State Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week Christian Westhorpe is tied for fifth at two-under after shooting a first-round 68 and a second-round 74. Patrick Sheedy is tied for 14th at one-over (72-73=145). Ray Badenhorst carded a three-under 69 in round two and is tied for 21st (146). Colin Flabbi shot 74 twice and is tied for 28th (148). Brandon Lau is in the clubhouse with a 157.

Barry’s Marcus Segerstrom leads the field of 75 players at eight-under (69-67=136).

The third and final round will get underway at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
