CLEARWATER, Fla. (Men’s and Women’s Swimming) – Florida Tech competed for the first time in the Sunshine State Conference Swimming Championship Wednesday evening at the Long Center. In the three events it entered, the first-year program continued to show marked improvement.
“We had a really good start to the championships with three new school records in the three events we entered,” head coach Jeni Ritter said. “The team is up against some very talented teams and has held its own, and I am confident they will continue to do so. I know they are very excited for the events to come in the next few days.”
Alison Randolph swam the 1,000-yard freestyle at a new season-best time of 11:08.62. Will Mitchell clocked in at 10:47.78 in the 1,000-yard freestyle. He then swam in the 800-yard freestyle relay with Ross Donatelli, Zach Sanchez and Kaikea Nakachi at a time of 7:19.08.
The SSC Swimming Championship will continue with two sessions on Thursday. Preliminaries in the 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard individual medley and 50-yard freestyle will be swam at 10 a.m. Finals for each of those three events will begin at 6 p.m., with the 200-yard freestyle relay and 400-yard medley relay also being contested.
