CLEVELAND, Miss. (Women’s Basketball) – Florida Tech’s Briauna Hagins has added yet another accolade to her sparkling four-year Panther career by being selected Daktronics All-South Region First Team by the area’s sports information directors on Wednesday.
Hagins, an Ocala, Fla. native, has been a dominant force for the Panthers, averaging 10.7 points and a Sunshine State Conference leading 11.7 rebounds in 28 minutes per game. She also paces the SSC with 5.6 offensive rebounds per game and is second in field goal percentage (.537) and defensive rebounds per game (6.0).
The senior forward ranks 10th in NCAA Division II in rebounds per game and 11th with 15 double-doubles on the season.
Hagins will leave FIT as the program’s leading rebounder having surpassed SSC and Florida Tech Sports Hall of Famer Sonja Radenkovic’s previous record of 897. In January, Hagins became the first Panther to surpass the 1,000 rebounds mark. Currently, she has scored 904 points and registered 1,066 rebounds in her career.
Her first team selection places her in the running for All-America status, which will be announced March 20.
The award is her second in one week as she was recently named All-SSC First Team.
Hagins and the Panthers will make their second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division II Championships. In the first round on Friday, the No. 7 seeded Panthers will oppose No. 2 seeded Florida Southern. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. ET at tournament host Rollins College’s Warden Arena.
