Kirui, Lassman Selected Panther Student-Athletes of the Week
MELBOURNE, Fla. (Athletics News) – Florida Tech senior Moses Kirui and junior Angie Lassman have been tabbed this week’s Panther Student-Athletes of the Week for the period of Aug. 27-Sept. 2.
Kirui, an aerospace engineering major from Eldoret, Kenya, opened the men’s cross country season with a fourth place finish in the Tampa Early Bird Classic. The top-five finish led the Panthers to a second place, overall team finish in the race. Kirui finished the 3.8-mile race in a time of 20:30:25, just fewer than 10 seconds off the pace. Kirui will look for another top finish Sept. 15 at the Florida Invitational. Lassman, a junior libero from Fraser, Mich., led the volleyball squad to a 3-1 opening weekend record, the best start for the team since 2008. The meteorology major tallied 102 digs in Valdosta State's Fairfield Inn and Suites Classic, averaging 6.8 per set. Lassman accrued 30-plus dig matches against both Valdosta State and Lander en route to being name the Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week presented by VALIC. |
