French, Ogilvie Selected Panther Student-Athletes of the Week
MELBOURNE, Fla. (Athletics News) – Florida Tech junior Charlie French and redshirt senior Gary Ogilvie have been named this week’s Panther Student-Athletes of the Week for the period of Sept. 3-9.
French, a junior civil engineering major from Howell, Mich., led the Panthers’ volleyball team to a 4-0 weekend at the Country Inn and Suites Volleyball Tournament with a team-high 43 kills while finishing second with 69 digs. She also recorded seven blocks, including two block solos and five block assists. French and company have led FIT to a 7-1 start, the best record to open a season since 2008. The team will play its first home match of the season at 7 p.m. Tuesday night in the Clemente Center. Ogilvie, a redshirt senior from Hullbridge, England, had a big week for Florida Tech to keep the Panthers unblemished through three games. In game one against Coker on the road, Ogilvie collected a loose ball inside the box in the 70th minute, with FIT trailing 1-0, and knocked it home to tie the game. Against Embry-Riddle, Ogilvie collected a loose ball in the 83rd minute to tie the game up at 4-4. In the 88th minute the Panthers were awarded a penalty kick. Ogilvie, electing to take the kick, drove it past the keeper for the game winning goal. |
