84 Panthers Recognized on SSC Spring Honor Roll
WINTER PARK, Fla. (Athletics News) – Florida Tech placed 84 student-athletes on the Sunshine State Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll for the spring semester, announced Thursday by Commissioner Jay Jones. Of the 84 Panthers, 18 recorded a perfect 4.0 grade point average in the spring.
FIT led all of the SSC’s women’s tennis programs with 10 honorees. That is quite a feat considering the women’s tennis team consists of exactly 10 members. To top it off, seven earned a 4.0 GPA. In comparison to the other softball programs in the conference, the Panthers tied for first with Barry University. Both institutions had 14 of its student-athletes honored on the spring list. A total of 799 student-athletes from the league’s nine members were named to the SSC Spring Honor Roll and 110 carried a 4.0 GPA for the semester. To be eligible for the Commissioner’s Spring Honor Roll, a student-athlete must post a minimum semester grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.0. Participants in the sports of men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s swimming, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s tennis, women’s rowing, baseball, softball, and men’s and women’s lacrosse were eligible for the honor roll. Having won 78 national championships since the league was founded in 1975, the SSC’s student-athletes have also proven to be successful in the classrooms. For the fourth consecutive year, the Sunshine State Conference led all 22 Division II conferences with an Academic Success Rate of 86 percent.
