Huba, Dohner Advance on Day Two of Panther Invitational

MELBOURNE, Fla. (Women’s Tennis) – Junior Kristina Huba and senior Stephanie Dohner went unbeaten in singles play on day two of the Panther Invitational. The two will play in separate singles championship matches tomorrow.
Huba defeated Julija Stojkovska of Webber International in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2, in the opening round of the Women’s A Singles Draw. Huba then defeated Palm Beach Atlantic’s Veena Vasquez 3-6, 6-3, 10-7 to advance to the championship match tomorrow. Dohner will also play in a championship match tomorrow. Dohner defeated Nathalia Chaddad of Webber International, 6-2, 3-6, 10-5 in the first round of flight “B.” The senior then beat Vilja Vahatalo of Palm Beach Atlantic, 6-2, 3-6, 10-8. Gwen Kauffman went 1-1 on the day after dropping her first match. Kauffman responded with a 7-6, 2-6, 10-3 victory over Bethune-Cookman’s Ancia Ifill in the second round. Jessica Widmark won her first match of flight “D” in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, over Bethune-Cookman’s Laura Rodrigues. The third and final day of the Panther Invitational will begin tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. with doubles matches. Two rounds of doubles will be played before the final rounds of singles draws will begin. |
