Tritons Pull Out Five-Set Win over Panthers

MELBOURNE, Fla. (Volleyball) – Eckerd’s four-match win streak looked to be in jeopardy as Florida Tech built a 2-1 lead, however, the Tritons would prevail in five sets (17-25, 25-19, 22-25, 25-19, 15-12) Friday night at the Clemente Center.
The Tritons improve to 16-7 overall and 7-2 in the Sunshine State Conference with the win, while the Panthers drop to 14-8, 4-6 SSC. Janice Valies led FIT with 14 kills. She was followed closely by Caitlyn Ballweber, who finished with 12. Alexis Mastela had 42 assists and 18 digs. Leading all players with 31 digs was Angie Lassman. Charlie French contributed 21 digs and Kim Juriga had 10. Eckerd’s Lindsay Biggs knocked down a game-high 22 kills, including her 1000th career kill on the Tritons’ first point of the match. Prior to the opening serve, Ballweber was recognized for earning her 1,000th career kill on Oct. 20 at Webber International. FIT will play in the Clemente Center for the last time this season on Saturday at 4 p.m. against Nova Southeastern. Head coach Amy O’Brien and the Panthers will recognize the team’s four seniors – Ballweber, Erin Hughes, Mastela and Valies – as part of Senior Day before the match.
