Beyond the Game: Nadine Johnson

In this edition of Beyond the Game, we are featuring Nadine Johnson from Florida Tech women's basketball. Nadine is a freshman from Pineville, Ky. studying psychology with a concentration in animal learning and behavior.

What is your major, why did you choose it, and how do you plan to use it?
"I am a major in psychology with a concentration in animal learning and behavior. I chose this major because I plan to be a veterinarian one day, so I think it's important to understand how animals behave and think cognitively."

Being a freshman, what has been your biggest transition to being a collegiate scholar-athlete?
"My biggest transition into college has definitely been my time management, and I would say the same for any incoming freshman, especially for scholar-athletes. Your free time gets a lot slimmer and the management part gets more complicated, so it's important to have good time management."

Coming from Kentucky to Florida, what has been your favorite part of Melbourne, and how is it different from your hometown?
"Being from a small town in Eastern Kentucky and moving to Melbourne allows me to have a bigger environment to express and view multiple cultural and diverse backgrounds. As a multiracial female I get to express myself more here and I really enjoy it."

What are you looking forward to most as you dive deeper into your major?
"I'm looking forward to learning about and hopefully one day advancing vet medicine and continue to work with animals and help others. I feel like this is very important, and everyone knows that animals make people happy, so I would love to continue to work with them."
