MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Florida Tech women's basketball team returned home to play their second game of 2024 and the first at home inside the Clemente Center. The Panthers forced overtime but came up short against the Mocs.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final (OT): Florida Tech 54, Florida Southern 59
Records: Florida Tech (5-11, 0-5 SSC), Florida Southern (7-5, 1-5 SSC)

FIRST QUARTER:
- Florida Southern took the opening points on a wide-open three two minutes in.
- Tech recorded their first two points on the next possession as Tai Roberts found Lina Stranger-Johannessen under the basket for the layup.
- FSC made their next three shots to take a 7-2 to go up 10-4 with 4:48 to go.
- Each team sunk a three-pointer before going on a two-minute scoring drought. Mocs ended the drought with a layup.
- Breazia Robinson added five straight points, converting a three-point play and adding a jumper, to close the gap, 15-12, with 40 seconds remaining.
- FSC ended the quarter with two made free throws to take a 17-12 lead.
SECOND QUARTER:
- Each team posted two made free throws off fast break fouls to start the second period.
- Tai Roberts tallied a jumper in the paint before Tech went on a five-minute scoring drought, allowing the Mocs to take a 5-0 run.
- With 53 seconds remaining, Olivia Stephens sunk two free throws to cut the deficit to six.
- Mocs' Marissa Jenike's three extended their lead to nine before Roberts drove in for a layup on the Panther's final possession of the period.
- FSC took a 27-20 lead into the break.
THIRD QUARTER:
- Tech brought momentum into the third period, going on a 6-0 run.
- Jessica Lange got the Panthers started with a putback less than 30 seconds in.
- Stranger-Johannessen forced a turnover on the Mocs' first possession of the period and converted the layup. Roberts closed out the run with a step-back jumper as Tech trailed by one.
- Teams traded baskets before FSC extended their lead back to six thanks to a made layup and a three, 1:56 to go.
- Lange battled for the layup on the next possession, but the Mocs scored three on a free throw and a layup to close out the period with a seven-point lead, 42-35.
FOURTH QUARTER:
- Emily Acampora sunk a three as the shot clock ran out to give Tech the first points of the period.
- Teams traded points most of the period, up until the 1:34 mark, as Roberts made a driving layup to make it a one-possession game.
- With 13 seconds to go, Domenica Zamora was fouled and went 1-2 at the line to put the Panthers down by 3.
- Acampora was awarded three free throws after being fouled beyond the arc with two seconds on the clock. Acampora converted all three free throws to bring the game to overtime.
OVERTIME:
- FSC's Zamora converted a three-point play in the opening seconds.
- Stranger-Johannessen makes a free throw before FSC made three more to take a five-point lead, 55-50, with 1:35 to go.
- An FSC foul sent Roberts to the line, who went 2-2 to cut the deficit to three.
- The Mocs' closed out overtime with four more free throws against Tech's one layup to earn a 59-54 win.
NOTABLE PANTHERS:
- Tai Roberts led the Panthers with 15 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and one steal.
- Jessica Lange grabbed eight rebounds and recorded a career-high five blocks while adding eight points.
- Emily Acampora tallied eight points and three rebounds.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- Florida Tech moves to 41-52 all-time against the Florida Southern Moccasins.
- The Mocs have won six straight dating back to Feb. 7, 2021, and eight of the last 10 meetings since Jan. 2, 2020.
- Tech finished the game shooting 31.6% (18-57) from the field, 25% (2-8) from beyond the arc, and 80.0% (16-20) on free throws.
- FSC shot 32.2% (19-59) in the contest, 6-16% (37.5) from the three-point range, and 71.4% (15-21) from the line.
- Florida Tech held the advantage in points in the paint (26-22), second-chance points (11-7), and bench points (26-11).
UP NEXT: Florida Tech returns to action on Wednesday, January 10 when they travel to Saint Petersburg for a mid-week match up against Eckerd. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
