TORONTO (Baseball) – Florida Tech senior right-hander Randall Thompson saw a childhood dream come true Monday, when he signed a free agent contract to play professional baseball for the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Orlando, Fla. native and Winter Park High School graduate finished his Panther career with 11 complete games. Thompson recorded 188 strikeouts, 18 wins and two saves in his four-year Panther career.

This spring, Thompson jumped out to a 5-0 start and pitched his way to a 3.22 ERA, while throwing a Florida Tech single-season record nine complete games. He held opposing hitters to a .285 batting average and struck out 78 batters, a career-high. Of his nine complete games, he recorded two shutouts, including a four-hit masterpiece against Barry on Feb. 20 and against Drury on March 5.

Following the season, he was recognized for his achievements on the field as he was named All-Sunshine State Conference Second Team.

From this year's team, Thompson is the second Panther to receive big league attention. One week ago, Jonathan Cornelius was picked up by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 24th round of the MLB First-Year Player Draft.
