MELBOURNE, Fla. (Women's Basketball) – Florida Tech (5-2, 1-2 SSC) was unable to complete its second half comeback against Sunshine State Conference rival Rollins (5-2, 1-1 SSC) on Wednesday night, falling to the Tars 72-67 at the Clemente Center.
Shequana Harris racked up 19 points and eight rebounds, both team-highs. The redshirt-senior also collected four assists and three steals in her 33 minutes of action.
DeLise Williams finished with 13 points, six boards and three blocks and
Tanease Richardson notched 10 points, two rebounds and two steals before leaving the game with an injury in the third quarter.
Marie Gilbert paced the Tars with 16 points while Julia Ingler added 12 points and five rebounds. Jasmine Stone recorded 11 points and three boards.
Florida Tech led 14-11 at the end of the first quarter but a dismal shooting performance in the second saw the Panthers get outscored by 11 and go into halftime trailing Rollins 36-28.
Ana Stankovic cut FIT's deficit to one, 44-43, with 3:57 left in the third. However, an 8-0 run, capped by Tianna Rosser's putback, had the Tars' lead back to nine with less than a minute remaining in the period. Following a pair of free throws apiece by Harris and Williams, the Panthers went into the final frame down 52-47.
Florida Tech regained the lead 64-63 off another Stankovic layup. The Panthers would then go cold from the floor over the final 2:50 of play allowing RC to take back momentum. Gilbert knocked down a three with 1:29 left to give Rollins a 66-64 lead and from there her team never looked back as it pulled away from FIT in the final seconds for a five point victory.
The Panthers will look to bounce back when they host No. 22 Nova Southeastern on Saturday, Dec. 3, at the Clemente Center. Tipoff for the SSC matchup is set for 2 p.m. ET. Jim Mitchell and Paul Van Scott will have the call on FloridaTechSports.com.
