BOCA RATON, Fla. (Women's Basketball) – Turnovers and poor-shooting plagued Florida Tech all night in its Sunshine State Conference showdown against Lynn on Friday night and the Panthers were handed their fourth straight defeat 71-61 on the road in Boca Raton.
FIT made just 36 percent from the floor and had 21 turnovers in the game. Lynn hit 39 percent of its attempts and finished with a narrow edge in rebounding 41-39.
DeLise Williams was the only Panther in double-digits and finished with 13 points, eight rebounds and four steals.
Julie McCarthy fell short of a double-double with nine points and 10 boards to go along with three blocks and three steals.
Gracie Doane chipped in nine points and five rebounds.
Four Fighting Knights ended in double-figures, led by Paola Vazquez Concepcion's 15 points and five steals. Shaunt'e Tucker, Brekia Henderson and Marta Oledzka notched 11 points apiece and combined for 18 rebounds.
The action was back-and-forth in the opening 10 minutes. Lynn scored the first five points of the quarter but the Panthers were able to come back and take a 13-12 lead on
Gudlaug Juliusdottir's lay-in with 1:23 left. However, from there it was all Fighting Knights as they scored the final five points and took a 17-13 advantage into the second.
LU's lead increased to 27-19 at the 2:20 mark of the second quarter but FIT would answer with a 9-2 run to make it a one point game, 29-28, at halftime. Doane knocked down a pair of threes during the scoring spree, including one at the buzzer.
Doane was a perfect 3-of-3 from long range in the first half and led the Panthers in scoring with nine points to go along with three rebounds. Juliusdottir added five points, two boards and one steal.
Vazquez Concepcion paced Lynn with nine points. Janay Williams had eight points and seven rebounds in the first half.
Hot-shooting by the Fighting Knights helped them build their lead to 46-34 with 5:23 left in the third quarter. The margin stayed near double-digits the rest of the period and LU took a 51-39 advantage into the final frame.
Henderson's three-pointer with 2:44 remaining in the fourth gave Lynn its largest lead of the game at 15, 63-48. The Panthers would not let up and proceeded on a 10-0 run over the next 57 seconds to cut the deficit to five, 63-58.
However, the Fighting Knights would make 8-of-10 from the line down the stretch to increase their lead back to double-digits and cruise to their third win in a row.
Florida Tech concluded the 2016 portion of its schedule and will return to action next Wednesday, Jan. 4, hosting the Embry-Riddle Eagles at 5:30 p.m. ET at the Clemente Center.
