MELBOURNE, Fla. (Women's Soccer) - Florida Tech capped its first road trip of the season successfully Sunday, overpowering West Alabama 4-0 to improve to a perfect 4-0 thus far in 2016. Freshman
Maria Munoz tallied her first career goal as four different players scored, while keeper
Karlyn Prisco has now notched three shutouts just two weeks into the campaign.
"It was a great overall team performance today," said Florida Tech head coach
Dustin Smith. "Everybody played and stepped up to the occasion. We executed in the final third today, which made a big difference. We would just like to keep our momentum going and move forward as we face our conference opponent on Wednesday in an always tough, highly-ranked Barry team."
After leaving a number of scoring chances on the pitch in Friday's 1-0 victory over Christian Brothers, Florida Tech made sure to capitalize early and often this time around. Less than seven minutes into the contest, midfielder
Taylor Eller put the Panthers on the board following an assist by
Ciera Misner. With two goals to her name through the team's first four games, Eller has already matched her entire season total from a year ago.
Still up by the same 1-0 margin in the 36
th minute,
Eva Banton extended the Florida Tech advantage, beating Tigers' keeper Issy Foster for her first goal of 2016.
Florida Tech continued its stranglehold of the match into the second half as well. In the 71
st minute,
Aubri Williamson fed Munoz to stretch the lead to 3-0 before Williamson added a goal of her own in the 82
nd minute just for good measure.
The four goals by the Panthers in Sunday's win are the most recorded in a single game since Smith and company beat South Carolina-Beaufort 8-0 back on September 10, 2015.
