McCarthy scores only goal in road win

BOCA RATON, Fla. (Women's Soccer) - On Wednesday night, Karlyn Prisco's fifth shutout of the season and Keira McCarthy's goal in the 56 minute lifted Florida Tech (6-5-2, SSC 3-3-1) to a 1-0 win over Lynn (5-8-0, SSC 3-5-0) at Bobby Campbell Stadium.

After finishing the night collecting two saves, FIT's red-shirt senior goalie Prisco currently ranks second within the SSC for saves with 62 and hosts a 4.77 saves per game average. After the Wednesday night performance, the Rockledge native takes the first seed in shutouts within the SSC leader board.

Netting her fourth seasonal goal against the Fighting Knights, McCarthy recorded four shots and three shots on goal, increasing her shots on-goal average to .571. The goal marked her second seasonal winning-goal, which now places her in ninth among the SSC for game winning goals.

Further aiding in the Panthers offensive efforts, sophomore midfielder Maria Munoz recorded 10 shots, two on goal, during the evening outing. Following her performance closely, teammate Monica Zabian pitched in with another 10 shots, placing three on goal. Rounding out the team's performance, red-shirt senior midfielder Elin Svensson followed up to deliver five shots, putting two shots on goal. After tonight's attributions, Munoz and Svensson rank first and second for shots, with Munoz counting 54 and Svensson 36 respectively.

As a team, Florida Tech outshot the Fighting Knights 29-10, targeting 12 shots on goal opposed to Lynn's two.

Establishing a fast offensive pace at the start of the match, Zabian ripped the first shot for FIT in the third minute. From there, the Crimson and Gray reeled off two more shots in a six-minute span. With 13 minutes on the board, Zabian reached Lynn's end zone once again, nearly scoring her second goal of the season. Continuing their offensive pressure, FIT, notched 11 more shots before the intermission. However, neither team was able to find the back of the net and left the first half tied, 0-0.

Entering the second period, Florida Tech powered its way into the Fighting Knights end zone, putting up four shots over four minutes of play. At the 56-minute mark, the Panthers hit the go-ahead goal when Svensson served the ball to McCarthy, who shot 10 yards out from the right wing to put the Panthers ahead, 1-0.

For the remainder of the period, the Crimson and Gray offense bested Lynn with 10 shots to three, while a flawless performance by Prisco allotted Florida Tech with the 1-0 win.

The Panthers return to action this Saturday, when they take on the Tampa Spartans at 7 p.m. E.T. Prior to the game, FIT will honor its senior class of 2017.
