Panthers Suffer 2-1 Decision to Sailfish

FIT ends regular season with narrow loss

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (Women's Soccer) - On Friday night, Florida Tech (7-7-2 SSC 4-5-1) ended its regular season in a 2-1 loss to Palm Beach Atlantic (3-9-1 SSC 2-7-1) at Rinker Athletic Campus.

In the night outing, FIT recorded five corner kicks and nine shots, five of which were on goal.

Senior Elin Svensson led the Crimson and Gray offense with five shots, targeting three towards the Sailfish net. Svensson also notched her fourth goal of the season, aided by junior defender Agathe Malmberg, who marked her first assist of the year. Additionally, red-shirt freshman Alyssa Bartle pitched in with two shots towards the Panthers total.

Between the posts, senior Karlyn Prisco ended the night with two saves to reach the 75 mark at the end of regular season.

Palm Beach dominated the early minutes of the first half, striking first to take goal one just three minutes into action to overlap FIT, 1-0. Florida Tech tried to create the momentum delivering five shots, but unable to conclude, left the first period trailing by one.

Returning from half time, the Panthers offense came out strong and immediately applied pressure to the Sailfish's defense. The Crimson and Gray aggressiveness paid off at the 62-minute mark, when Svensson drilled a shot behind the Sailfish goalie to cut the PBA lead, 1-1.

The Panthers continued to create opportunities but could not find the back of the net. With five minutes of regulation left, the Sailfish breached through the FIT defense and notched a second goal to seal the match, 2-1.

The Panthers will now enter post-season play, squaring up for the SSC Quarterfinals on Tuesday, Oct. 31.
