MELBOURNE, Fla. (Softball) - Florida Tech (12-16, 1-5 SSC) drops game one 7-5 to Barry University (8-15, 3-5 SSC) but grabs game two 14-13, on a walk off single to left field on Saturday afternoon at Nancy
Bottge Field. .
Offensively, the Crimson and Gray collected 22 hits on the day, which included one homerun and five doubles.
Julianna Goldberg and
Hailey Leonard recorded five hits and four RBIs apiece. Catcher,
Makayla Palmer, four hits and three RBIs while fellow teammates
Vanessa Rubio and
Alexus Smith posted three hits and one RBI each.
In game one, the Buccaneers reached the scoreboard at the top of the third for a lead of 1-0. In the offensive home half,
Hailey Leonard hit a grounder to third that advanced Patterson to third. With a runner in the corner, Palmer flared a single down the left field line driving Patterson home to tie up the game 1-1.
Barry scored two more runs in the fourth and one more in the sixth now leading 4-1. At the bottom of the sixth,
Goldberg closed the gap blasting a solo homerun to deep left field. The Panthers entered the seventh with a 4-2 deficit but Goldberg stepped to the plate and closed the gap with a two run single to tie the game at four.
In the eight, BU scored one more run but a quick response from the Panthers shortstop, Patterson, drove home Audrey
Gangloff to bring the score tied at five. Barry scored two more runs at the top of the ninth to put Florida Tech at a deficit it would not be able to close. The Panthers fought back but they were unable to bring their runners home and eventually fell to Barry 7-5.
Game two started off with a run for Barry, but the Panthers sparked up their fight in the home half and snatched five runs thanks to a double by Palmer and two back-to-back singles by Goldberg and Leonard.
The Buccaneers replied with an answer of their own after scoring six runs at the top of the second, regaining the lead 7-5. FIT got back on the board at the bottom of the fifth when three runners crossed home plate due to combined singles by Smith and
Maiello.
At the bottom of the sixth, Leonard hit a two run double to increase the score 10-9. Fellow teammate Karina
Suicava then dropped a bunt, which allowed Rubio and Leonard to stretch the gap 12-9. Generating four runs quickly, BU changed the lead at the top of the seventh to put Florida Tech at a deficit of one.
At the bottom of the inning, a determined Panther offense loaded the bases and tied the game on a walk allotted to Rubio. With the scoreboard reading 13 all, a walk off single Leonard closed the final inning allowing the Crimson and Grey to take home the win 14-13.

Krutzinger (1-2) earned her first seasonal and conference win.
The softball team has a three-day break before heading back to Nancy
Bottge field for another doubleheader against Caldwell and
