Florida Tech Extends Win Streak with Rout of Montevallo

Panthers' offensive onslaught continued in 18-2 thrashing of Falcons

TAMPA, Fla. (Women's Lacrosse) - No. 19 Florida Tech (5-1) picked up its second victory in as many days as the Panthers routed Montevallo (3-5) 18-2 in a neutral site showdown in Tampa, Florida.

Sara Grenier led all players with five goals and Caroline Dunleavy found the back of the net four times in the game. Allie Modica finished with three points on a goal and two assists. Sam Schiano, Jordan Grant and Mollie Kaplan recorded two goals each.

Mary Gormley collected a game-high five draw controls, while Schiano hauled a game-best five ground balls, two draw controls and two caused turnovers. Haley Heggblod added three caused turnovers and Stephanie Stuart (5-1) earned her fifth straight victory in goal for the Panthers.

Florida Tech finished with more shots (38-8), ground balls (21-12) and draw controls (14-8). The Panthers also went a perfect 16-of-16 on clears.

FIT scored the first 11 goals of the contest over the initial 21:25 of the game. UM's Lauren Duckworth stopped the run with her free position goal at the 7:09 mark. Mollie Kaplan pushed the Panthers' lead back to 11 with her unassisted goal with 43 seconds remaining in the first half.

The Crimson and Gray kicked off the second half with goals by Grenier, Aleah Fjelstad and Dunleavy to increase the lead to 15-1 with 15:16 left in the stanza. The Panthers closed the game scoring three of the final four goals to push their win streak to five.

Florida Tech returns to action next Thursday, Mar. 9, hosting Tusculum at Panther Stadium. Opening draw for the contest is set for 7 p.m. ET.
