HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (Softball) - Despite battling back late, Florida Tech (10-12) dropped 7-1 to the University of Alabama Huntsville (17-5) during week six. The Panthers took an early deficit and could not recoup before seven innings of play.
Amanda Khan (0-1) pitched just over four innings, allowing only one run on six hits leading the FIT defense. The Panthers collected 18 putouts and nine assists.
Offensively, Audrey
Gangloff (1-for-3),
Hailey Leonard (1-for-3),
Julianna Goldberg (1-for-3),
Alexus Smith (1-for-3, 1 RBI) and Kaitlin
Buchholz (1-for-3) collected all five of Florida Techs' hits.
After the first two scoreless innings,
Gangloff started the top of the third with a single to the Chargers pitcher. Fellow teammate,
Buchholz then stepped to the plate and flared a single through the right side to advance
Gangloff to second.
With runners at first and second, Smith drove
Gangloff home with a double to the left center to bring in the first run for the Crimson and Gray. With runners in scoring position, Florida Techs' offense struggled and was unable to bring in more runs.
After the initial six runs at the bottom of the first, the Chargers scored one more run at the bottom of the fifth and eventually ended the game with a 7-1 win.
The Panthers will step back on the diamond Wednesday Mar. 8 for a double header against Shorter University. The first pitch is set for 12 p.m. ET at Alto Park Softball Complex in Rome, Ga.
