MELBOURNE, Fla. - Florida Tech women's basketball hit the court for their final tune-up game before their season opener as the team invited NAIA opponent, St. Thomas, to the Clemente Center. The Panthers took down the Bobcats, 76-57, in a solid preseason showing.
Leading the Panthers was
Kailyn Ebb as she was the primary offensive weapon scoring 15, tied for the team high, and dishing out four dimes, the team high. Sophomore
Fanny Hakanson also collected 15 points and grabbed seven boards.
Florida Tech got out the gates hot as the team outplayed its opposition throughout the first quarter. This led to a 20-11 advantage after the first 10 minutes.
The second quarter was even more dominant than the first as the Panthers outscored the Bobcats, 22-8. This gave Florida Tech a 42-19 lead as they headed into the locker room.
However, the second half was a close battle as St. Thomas' offense came alive and began to score itself. They paced Florida Tech in both the final two quarters as they outscored them 21-18 and 17-16, respectively.
But that was not enough to overcome the Panthers' huge first-half lead as they won 76-57.
Women's basketball will open its regular season next Friday, Nov. 9, when the team heads over to Tampa, Florida for a game against Claflin. This is part of the annual SSC-SIAC Crossover Challenge. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET and the game will take place in the Bob Martinez Athletics Center.
