ANCHORAGE, AK. - Florida Tech women's basketball (2-4) was in another hard-fought game, but once the buzzer sounded they fell to Simon Fraser (4-1), 82-80 in overtime.
Leading the Panthers was
Kailyn Ebb as the Maryland native was named to the DII Coast to Coast All-Tournament team.
Gracie Doane (16) found herself in her usual spot as the team's leading scorer, while Ebb (7) grabbed the most rebounds and the most assists at four.
The game started off with the teams battling on every possession as neither one could take a commanding lead. After the 10 minutes, Tech did come out with a 17 -15 led as they went back to the bench.
The second quarter started strong for the Panthers as they opened the period on a 14-3 run to bring their advantage to 13 points with 4:21 left. SFU got four quick points but then let up another run as Florida Tech grabbed its biggest lead of the game, 18, with 1:53 on the clock.
However, the Clan ended the quarter with five unanswered points to end the half with the scoreline at 40-27 in favor of the Panthers.
The second half started with a similar pace as the opening quarter. But that did not last as the final five minutes of the quarter was all Simon Fraser. The Canadians managed to erase a double-digit deficit and grab the lead with 1:20 left in the third. But Doane hit a late trey to give the Panthers a 54-53 advantage at the end of the quarter.
The final quarter was another close one as neither team managed to take control as they went shot for shot. This lasted until an
Amanda Allen three-pointer at 2:56 left on the clock tied the game 71-71. This marked the last points of the regulation as both defenses clamped down.
Such a hard fought game gave the viewers what they wanted as the teams duked it out for another five minutes of play. Again, control was never established by either team as they went bucket-for-bucket with no team ever having more than a four-point advantage throughout the five minutes.
But in the end, it was another heartbreaker for the Florida Tech as the team lost to SFU, 82-80.
Florida Tech will look to get back on the track next Saturday, Dec. 1, as they welcome Eckerd to the Clemente Center. The team's Sunshine State Conference opener is set to tip at 2 p.m. ET and will be followed by the men's team.
