Panthers Fall to Barry

Hakanson's near double-double not enough as Florida Tech falls to Barry 64-55

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - Florida Tech women's basketball suffered a tough last minute defeat by the Buccaneers of Barry, 64-55, on Sunday afternoon at the Health & Sports Center.

Sophomore Fanny Hakanson paced the Panthers both in scoring (12) and on the glass (8). Aniquah Swan dished out a team-high three assists.

The first quarter was tightly contested but the Bucs controlled the action as they held the lead for the majority of the quarter. After the first 10 minutes, Tech trailed 15-17.

The second quarter saw the Crimson and Gray grab a one-point advantage twice. But after the second lead, BU ignited for a 20-6 run that gave the Bucs a 13-point cushion as the teams went to the locker room for halftime.

The third quarter was tilted in favor of the Panthers as they cut the deficit to 49-41 by the end of the period.

Florida Tech dominated the first seven minutes of the fourth quarter and tied the game at 55-55. But the team hit a cold streak while Barry heated up and finished the game on a 9-0 run.

The Panthers will look to kick the New Year off on the right foot as they welcome Florida Southern to the Clemente Center on Wednesday, Jan. 2. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. ET and will be followed by the men's game.
