MELBOURNE, Fla. – In the final game before the holiday break, Florida Tech women's basketball welcomed Tampa to the Clemente Center. It was an intense battle throughout the first half but UT's second-half runs (7-2, 2-1 SSC) downed the Panthers (2-6, 0-2 SSC), 57-42.
Kailyn Ebb was atop the scoring list for Tech at 9.
Fanny Hakanson owned both the team highs for rebounds (5) and assists (8).
The game started off tightly contested as both defenses dug deep and established their dominance early. This led to points being hard to come by as the quarter ended with a Tampa three-point buzzer beater that gave them the lead, 12-11.
The second quarter was much of the same as neither team could manage to really take the lid of the basket. But, Florida Tech did edge out the Spartans 11-9, courtesy of an
Amanda Allen trey ball in the closing seconds.
This gave the Panthers a 22-21 lead as they went into the locker room.
The third quarter saw the action pick up as both teams started to score more. However, it was the Spartans that benefitted the most as they outscored the Panthers by nine.
This put the score at 43-35 as the teams geared up for the final 10 minutes of play.
The final quarter resembled the third as Tech could not seem to take the lid off the basket. UT again outscored the women to the tune of 14-7.
At the final buzzer, Florida Tech found itself on the losing end, 57-42. The team will look to end the skid of bad games in 10 days when they head over to Tampa, Florida for the Tampa Holiday Classic.
In game one of the Classic, the Panthers will take on the University of Findlay. This game will take place on Tuesday, December 18 at 1 p.m. at the Bob Martinez Athletics Center.
