MELBOURNE, Fla. - Getting back to its winning ways, Florida Tech (15-12) motored past Ursuline College (2-12) in thrilling fashion at the Nancy
Bottge Field on Monday afternoon. After battling through extra-innings in Game 1, the Panthers managed to seal a 4-3 win in the bottom of the 10
th, followed with a 5-3 decision in the second game to pull off a sweep against the Ohio squad.
In the circle, Amanda Khan (3-2) recorded one win and her first seasonal save during the Monday outing. During Game 1, the Huntington Beach native recorded an outstanding six-inning no-hitter, as she held the Ursuline lineup to a .095 batting average. Forwarding to Game 2, the senior allowed one run and two hits in 1.1 innings pitched. Also during the second game, fellow teammate McKenzie
Krutsinger (5-4) collected her fifth win, as the junior restrained the Arrows offense to two runs in 5.2 innings.
At the plate, veteran
Jessica Callahan led the Crimson and Gray lineup with a perfect score inside the box, as the Kissimmee product went 3-for-3 with one RBI for a 1.000 slugging, 1.000 batting, and .750 on-base percentage. Junior
Xiarysse Emerenciana chipped in with a 4-for-9 performance to include two RBI, one triple, and one double. Capping off the day with two RBI apiece,
Mikayla Wessel and
Vanessa Rubio racked up one and two hits respectively, with Rubio blasting her second home run of the season.
During the first game of the doubleheader, the Arrows struck first with a three-run home run in the top of the fourth to jump ahead, 3-0. After a blank fifth for both sides,
Emerenciana tripled to center field to bring FIT on base, while
Wessel pushed her home on a squeeze play to close the gap, 3-1.
In the final regulation inning,
Emerenciana and
Wessel joined forces once again to tie the score, sending the game into extra-inning play, 3-3. From there, both dugouts battled through two complete innings until sophomore
Ally Carver drove in the winning run for the Panthers in the bottom of the 10
th, 4-3.
Moving into the second game, the Arrows broke through the score once again, as the Ursuline lineup posted two runs in the top of the second to overlap FIT, 2-0. However, Florida Tech made things even in the bottom half of the inning, after Rubio delivered a two-run bomb behind center field to tie the score, 2-2.
As the third came around, Florida Tech broke the balance with Callahan's sac fly to left center and remained hot in the fourth, where Victoria
Szrom doubled to the deep left center to bump up the Panthers total, 4-2. Although the Arrows decreased the deficit by one run in the sixth, 4-3, the Melbourne squad responded with an RBI double down the left field line by
Emerenciana to push FIT past Ursuline, 5-3.
In the final frame, Khan forced three quick putouts for to wrap up the win.
Next up, the Panthers will host Caldwell University on Wednesday, Mar. 14 in a doubleheader event. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. ET.
