MELBOURNE, Fla. - No. 6 Florida Tech (5-0) cruised to its fifth win of the season on Monday night, earning a dominant 24-3 victory over Alderson Broaddus (1-3) at Panther Stadium.
The result extends the Panthers' current home win streak to 11 games and gives FIT its 15th straight win against non-conference opponents.
Ten different players registered goals for Florida Tech in the game.
Sara Grenier notched five goals and an assist and
Mary Gormley tallied two goals and four assists in addition to four ground balls and three draw controls.
Lauren Tybor recorded five points on four goals and one assist to go along with five draw controls.
Alexis Townsend netted a career-high four goals and
Mollie Kaplan added a career-best four points on a hat trick and one assist.
Caroline Dunleavy finished with two goals and two assists.
Leah Dunn, Kaplan and Tybor, ended with three caused turnovers., apiece
Stephanie Stuart earned the win in the FIT goal while playing just 12:53 and collecting one save.
Chloe Zador came in relief and made two saves in the Panthers' net.
The Crimson and Gray limited the Battlers to just six shots in the game, matching the program's current record for fewest shots allowed in a game. FIT closed the matchup with more ground balls, 27-12, and more draw controls, 18-11. ABU turned the ball over 31 times, 19 of which were caused by the Panthers.
Florida Tech jumped out a quick 5-0 lead just 5:07 after the opening draw. Three of the Panthers' first five goals came on free position attempts.
Alex Shaffer gave ABU its first point of the game on a free position goal with 22:22 left to go. From there, the Panthers tacked on seven more goals over the next 7:39 and grabbed a 11-point lead, 12-1, with 14:43 still remaining in the opening frame.
The Battlers took advantage of man-up opportunity and scored their second of the game off the cross of Krista Cooper to make the score 12-2.
The Panthers registered three of the next four goals of the half and went into the halftime break with a massive lead over ABU, 15-3.
FIT dominated the second half of the game as well, outscoring the Battlers 8-0 on the way to its third home victory of the season.
