WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – No. 5 Florida Tech (13-1, 3-1 SSC) earned a dominant 23-1 victory over Sunshine State Conference foe Palm Beach Atlantic (1-12, 0-4 SSC) on Wednesday at the PBA Soccer/Lacrosse Field.
The Panthers' offense has been on a roll as of late. Florida Tech has scored at least 21 goals in four straight games and outscored opponents 89-36 during the span.
Twelve different players found the back of the net in the Panthers' win. IWLCA National Player of the Week
Lauren Tybor paced the Crimson & Gray with four goals, one assist, six draw controls, two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Mary Gormley recorded a game-high six points on two goals and four assists to go along with five draw controls.
Sam Schiano finished with two goals and an assist in addition to four draw controls, two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Sara Grenier and
Leah Dunn each tallied a hat trick and
Hunter Cairo added two goals and two assists.
Caroline Dunleavy scored two goals.
A pair of defenders also got into the mix. Senior
Haley Heggblod registered her first career goal, and the final of the game, for the Panthers while senior
Allie Wood notched a career-high two points on a goal and an assist.
Olivia Going collected six ground balls and
Brittney Embree gathered four loose balls.
FIT dominated the shots category, 41-4, and picked up more ground balls, 29-13, and draw controls, 19-7.
Grenier quickly got the Panthers on the board with an unassisted effort just 37 seconds into the game. Consecutive goals by Dunn and a score by
Mollie Kaplan gave FIT a 4-0 advantage with 23:58 left in the first half.
The Sailfish received their only goal of the game off a tally by Grace Bartlinski at 22:32 remaining in the half. Dunleavy's first goal of the game, off an assist from
Alexis Townsend, kicked off a 12-0 run that handed the Panthers a 16-1 lead at halftime.
FIT cruised through the second half, adding seven more unanswered goals, on the way to a 22-goal victory.
