Panthers Blanks the Statesmen 4-0

MELBOURNE, Fla. - After a whirlwind weekend of travel, Florida Tech (1-2-1) finally got to settle back into familiar surroundings as they hosted Delta State (1-1-0) at Rick Stottler Field. The Panthers came away with an easy 4-0 victory as they recorded their first clean sheet of the season.

Maria Munoz headed the Crimson and Gray on the attacking end as the junior registered two goals on 10 shots, five shots on goals, and an assist on the night. Veronica Thordardottir also recorded multiple points on the evening as she tallied a goal and an assist.

A combined effort from redshirt-freshman Maria Sanchez Receuro and junior Natalia Milashus anchored the Panthers' clean sheet as both keepers clocked in 45 minutes of action.

Florida Tech started the game off firing on all cylinders as the team quickly jumped out to a 1-0 lead off of a beautiful lead pass from Keira McCarthy that allowed Munoz to tap in an easy goal. In the 22nd minute, Munoz added her second goal of the night, this time off a cross from Thordardottir.

Thordardottir would net a goal of her own later in the first half when Munoz returned the earlier favor and set Thordardottir up with a cross that lead to a goal.

The second half saw much of the same with Florida Tech controlling the pace of play with its constant pressure to advance the ball to its attacking third. This pressure eventually led to the Brittany Etrick finding the back of the net for the fourth and final goal of the evening in the 68th minute.

When asked about the match, assistant coach Jessica Monarch said "We are constantly focusing on progressing throughout the season at a good pace and I thought that tonight was a step in the right direction."

The Panthers will look to continue trending in the right direction as they try to dispatch Valdosta State on Sunday, Sept. 9. This match will take place at 12 p.m. on Rick Stottler Field.
