Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Florida Tech Cruises Past Oakland City

MELBOURNE – Florida Tech looked to follow its dominant performance against Wesleyan and the women achieved just that as they earned a wire-to-wire victory over Oakland City, 78-51.

Cheyenne Scott and Fanny Paulin were the Crimson & Gray's main scoring threats as they had 13 and 10 respectively. Fanny Hakanson continued her strong start to the season as she recorded five points, and team highs in both rebounds and assists with seven.

The Crimson and Gray started the game out on fire as they opened with a 10-0 before the Lady Oaks called a timeout to try to slow the game down. However, that did not work as the Panthers managed to make it 13-0 at the 5:15 mark. Oakland City finally got on the board about 30 seconds later as a three ball found the bottom of the net.

That did not kill the Panthers momentum as they closed out the quarter on a 6-0 run which put the score at 24-6.

The second quarter was similar to the first as Florida Tech had multiple periods of dominance. The largest came in the middle of the quarter as a Severine Uggen layup sparked an 8-0. This plus a late, 5-0, run helped put Florida Tech up by 46-21 as the teams left the court.

The second half was a more competitive affair as the Lady Oaks began to score the rock with greater efficiency and step up on defense as they controlled a majority of the third quarter. Nevertheless, Tech found its rhythm and managed to end the period on an 8-0 run and Scott recorded half of those points on fastbreak free throws. The women held a 28-point advantage as the game went into the final 10 minutes of action.

The fourth quarter was the only period of the night in which the Lady Oaks outscored Florida Tech, as it was an 18-17 line. This came about as both teams managed to dictate the pace of play for pockets of time. However, in the end, it was an easy, 78-51, victory for the Panthers.

Florida Tech will look to keep this form up when they welcome Palm Beach Atlantic to the Clemente for the team's SSC home opener. This game will take place Wednesday, Dec. 4, and will tipoff at 5:30 p.m.
