MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – It was a game of momentum shifts but at the final buzzer, Florida Tech come out on top of the Barry Buccaneers, 79-68.
The Panthers' player of the game was
November Morton as she had a game-high 22 points and was one rebound away from a double-double.
Severine Uggen had a big game as well as she tallied 19 points on 7-15 from the field and 3-8 from beyond the arc.
Fanny Hakanson dished out a game-high 10 dimes and had seven points.
The Crimson & Gray started out slow as the women did not hold the lead at any point in the first quarter. However, Morton had a huge period as she had nine of the team's 14 points. Despite the sluggish start, it was only a three-point game after the first 10 minutes.
The second quarter began with the two teams going shot for shot. However, all that changed with six minutes left to go as the Panthers took control. Uggen began the run with a three ball and
Fanny Paulin quickly tied it up at 25-25. But it was
Amanda Allen that gave the women their first lead of the night when she nailed a three ball that made it 28-27.
Tech closed the first half out on a 10-2 run that did not see the Bucs score in the final 3:35. This run gave Florida Tech a 35-29 halftime advantage.
The second half followed a similar trajectory as Barry was the aggressor in the third quarter and outscored the Panthers 18-22. Nevertheless,
Aniquah Swan nailed two free throws that gave the team a 53-51 lead as the game headed into the final 10 minutes.
The final period of play was all Florida Tech as they opened on a 12-3 run that took five minutes off the clock and gave them the first double-digit lead of the night. This strong play continued throughout the rest of the game as the margin hovered around 10 points until the final whistle. At the buzzer, Florida Tech walked out of the Health & Sports Center with a 79-68 conference win.
Florida Tech will take a few days off before they take court Thursday, Dec. 19, for game one of the Florida Tech Holiday Classic against William Jewell.
