CLEARWATER, Fla. – Florida Tech softball (6-2) picked up where it left off yesterday as the team grabbed another two victories in the NFCA DII Leadoff Classic. The team first downed Molloy 4-2 and followed that with an 8-0 beat down of California (PA).
Game one had
Tina Velazquez Rolon (1-0) start the game and toss 5.2 innings.
Melanie Murphy took the reins to finish the contest as she picked up the save for her performance.
The game was mostly a defensive battle with only two half innings have runs cross the plate.
Molloy was the first to strike as they had two runs cross the plate in the second inning. They held the lead till the fourth when the Panthers found their rhythm.
Vanessa Rubio batted in the first run for Florida Tech as a slow grounder to the shortstop gave
Cheyenne Nelson enough time to cross home plate. Later in the inning,
Shanysse Emerenciana cleared the bases as she belted a ball to deep right-center field. This gave the team a 4-2 advantage that they held for the rest of the contest.
The second outing of the day had
Jordan Lawlis (3-0) take the mound. The transfer earned her first complete game of the season as she went for all five innings. During the outing, she allowed no runs and on five hits and struck out two batters.
The Panthers came out the gate hot against the Vulcans as they put up five runs in the first inning. Rubio again batted in the first run as she hit into a fielder's choice that scored
Xiarysse Emerenciana. An error, a steal, and a single helped the other four runners cross the bag.
The game was quiet for the next two innings till the final three runs were scored in the top of the fourth by Tech. A dropped fly ball helped usher the first two runs of the across the plate. The final run occurred thanks to a double by Velazquez Rolon scored Nelson.
The Panthers will look to push its win streak to six straight when they hit the field against Lenior-Rhyne Sunday, Feb. 10. First pitch for this contest is set to take place at 11 a.m. ET.
