No. 20 Panthers Extinguish Flames, 22-2

Florida Tech racks up fourth largest margin of victory in dominating win over Lee on Wednesday

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Ten Panthers scored at least one goal and No. 20 Florida Tech made quick work of its matchup with Lee on Wednesday, rolling to a 22-2 victory at Panther Stadium.
 
Leah Dunn and Mollie Kaplan each tied career-highs with five goals and an assist to pace the Panthers. Kaplan also added five draws. Alexis Townsend finished with a career-high seven points on two goals and a career-best five assists to go along with five ground balls.
 
Sam Schiano notched a hat trick with six draw controls, three ground balls, and two caused turnovers. Kailee O'Brien tallied two goals and two assists and Hunter Cairo dished out three assists to go with a goal. Aleah Fjelstad ended with a goal, six ground balls, and three caused turnovers. Lexi Woviotis scored one goal and picked up four draws. 
 
Chloe Zador got the win between the pipes for Tech, needing to make just one save in 30:00. 
 
It took just 54 seconds for Kaplan to get the Crimson & Gray on the board with an unassisted goal. Dunn then tallied consecutive goals, a man-up score of an assist from O'Brien and the other off a feed from Townsend.
 
Townsend tossed assists to three of the next four Panther goals, two to Kaplan and one to O'Brien, to make the score 7-0 with 21:01 left in the first half.
 
Florida Tech found the back of the net nine more times during the opening stanza and the Panthers took a 16-0 advantage into halftime. 
 
Cairo's first goal of the season came 45 seconds into the second half and increased Tech's lead to 17-0.
 
The Flames finally put one in the net with 26:12 to go. However, the Panthers answered with a 4-0 run, including the first career goals for Woviotis and Caroline MacLeod, to push the lead to 21-2.
 
Lee added one more tally before Fjelstad closed the scoring with 4:10 remaining, off an assist from Cairo, and the Panthers walked away with their third win of the season. 
 
The 20-goal win is the fourth largest margin of victory in program history. 
 
The Panthers dominated the stats categories in the win. Finishing with a 36-6 edge in shots on goal, including a 25-1 disparity in the first half. Tech also collected more ground balls (24-10) and draw controls (18-8) in the game.
 
Florida Tech is back in action on Friday, Mar. 8, battling Edinboro in a neutral site matchup in Conway, S.C. The contest between the Panthers and Saints will begin at 12 p.m. at Carolina Forest High School.
