Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Florida Tech Defeated by Florida Southern in 2020 Opener

MELBOURNE – Florida Tech women's basketball kicked off the 2020 portion of its schedule with a Sunshine State Conference showdown with the Moccasins of Florida Southern. The Crimson & Gray did what they could but at the final buzzer, they fell 57-72.

Cheyenne Scott was an offensive powerhouse as she led Tech in both points (18) and assists (4). November Morton was the team's leading rebounder as she tallied five boards.

The game started slowly as each team managed only two points over the first four and a half minutes of play. However, a bucket by Morton kicked off some fast-paced action that made the score 13-8 about two minutes later. The rest of the quarter slowed down as the teams only scored a combined seven points over the final 3:30. This put the Panthers up 15-13 as they went back to the bench.

The lid came off both baskets in the second quarter as the two competitors combined for 49 points. Unfortunately, a few six or more point runs gave the Mocs the edge in the period as the score going into the locker room was 36-41.

The second half was much like the second quarter as FSC controlled the final 20 minutes of the contest. Florida Tech managed to keep it in strike distance for a good portion of the third and at points in the fourth but an overall shooting slump never let them get the lead back. When the clock hit 0:00 the final score was 57-72.

Florida Tech now turns its focus to its Saturday, Jan. 4, matchup against Embry-Riddle. The women will head up I-95 to the ICI Center in Daytona Beach, Florida. Tipoff for this game will take place at 4 p.m. ET.
