Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

The Panthers Fall on Senior Night

MELBOURNE, Fla. – On a joyous day for the Florida Tech women's basketball seniors, Amanda Allen and Gudluag Juliusdottir, saw the team honor them for their contributions to the program over the past four seasons. This energy was felt as Florida Tech held the lead for a majority of the contest but at the final buzzer fell, 59-60.

Severine Uggen led the Panthers on the offensive front as she had 16 points. Fanny Hakanson showed off her all-around skills as she had nine points, five rebounds and a game-high four assists. Allen and November Morton were the other double-digit scorer as they had 14 and 11, respectively.

The Crimson & Gray started shaky, as the game was 2-0 before the opening tip due to an equipment malfunction. After the tip, it stayed rocky as the Tars jumped out to a 6-0 lead before Allen made it a two-possession contest. However, it ballooned to 6-15 Tech deficit with 5:09 left.

A late Florida Tech surge did make it 15-19 as the game went into the break. The Panthers' hot streak continued in the second quarter as they went on an 8-2 run that spanned most of the period and gave the women their first lead of the night, 23-21. The final two minutes of the half was tight but a Morton buzzer-beater gave the women as 28-26 advantage as the game into the locker room.

Momentum played a huge part in the second half. The third began as the first half ended with the teams trading blows. However, a 14-2 Tech run looked as if the team was going to cruise as they were up, 50-38.

This was not the case though as Rollins ended the quarter with a five-point run. This made it 50-43 as the game went into the fourth. This run continued as the period started with 14-4 Rollins run and 19-4 if you add on the five from the end of the third. This put Florida Tech down, 54-58, with 23 seconds left.

This did not kill Tech fight as they brought it back within two with six ticks left and with two seconds on the clock it was a 60-59 game. Unfortunately, it was a little too late as the 59-60 score was the final.

Florida Tech will now gear up for the postseason and their first-round match of the Sunshine State Conference tournament. This game will take place Tuesday, March 3, at 7 p.m. ET.
