Panthers Conquer Spartans on the Road

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final:
 Florida Tech 2, Tampa 1
Records: Florida Tech (7-2-5, 3-2-4 SSC) | Tampa (7-7-1, 6-4 SSC)
Location: Pepin Stadium | Tampa, Fla.

STATS OF THE MATCH:
  • Marem Ndiongue gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead just 1:09 into the game off a free kick in Tampa's end. Mayara Queiroz Reis redirected the free kick in the Spartans' box and Ndiongue finished it into the back of the net for her second goal of the season. It was Queiroz Reis' first assist of the year.
  • Hanna Maansson extended Tech's lead to 2-0 in the 39th minute on her first goal as a Panther. Maansson streaked up the left side of the field, beat a defender inside the box and fired off a shot from the left side of the goal that bounced between the goalkeeper's legs and into the net.
  • Tampa had an advantage in shots (10-8) and corners (3-1) at halftime.
  • The Spartans cut the Panthers' lead to 2-1 less than five minutes into the second half on a goal by Stephanie DeLaforcade.
  • Tampa continued its pressure the rest of the second half but was unable to get another past Paige Lewkutz, who finished with six saves for the Panthers. Spartans' goalie Lovisa Camel also made six saves in the game.
  • UT out shot Tech 5-2 in the second half and finished with a 15-10 edge in shots for the game. However, the Panthers had an 8-7 advantage in shots on goal.
  • Queiroz Reis led Tech with four shots, placing three on goal, while Ndiongue had three shots with two on goal.

COACHES CORNER:
"Tonight was a great road win at a tough place to go," said head coach Ryan Moon. "Tampa is a well-coached team and, just like the other night against PBA, it was important for us to take our chances which we did. A lot of tonight's game wasn't the prettiest from us but sometimes that's what is needed. We are in good spirits and feeling great about our current form. We'll go into our final game of the regular season with a bounce in our step and look to finish strongly at home."

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • With the win, Florida Tech moves to 5-12-8 all-time against the Spartans. It's the Panthers' first win over UT since a 2-1 victory on Oct. 20, 2018.
  • The victory helps Tech climb up to 6th in the SSC standings with 13 points. The Panthers are one spot ahead of Lynn and Barry who are each tied for 7th in the standings with 12 points.
  • Tech improves to 4-2-1 in road games this season.
  • The Spartans' goal in the second half ended the Panthers' streak of holding SSC opponents scoreless, halting it at 609 minutes dating back to the Nova Southeastern game on Oct. 2.
  • Lewkutz earns her second career win in just her second career start.

UP NEXT: Florida Tech concludes the regular season on Tuesday, Nov. 2, as the Panthers host Lynn for Senior Night at Rick Stottler Field. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
