Third Quarter Surge Lifts Tigers Past Lady Panthers

FIRST HALF: 
  • Tech came out hot taking a 14-4 lead, baskets by Hannah Roney, Fanny Hakanson, and Severine Uggen, with 4:10 remaining in the first quarter.
  • West Alabama answered back going on a 4-0 run to close in on the Panthers lead, 14-12, heading into the second quarter.
  • Both teams would exchange baskets most of the way with the largest lead being three points
  • A pair of Dalma Ehmann free throws in the final two seconds shortened the Panthers deficit to one entering halftime.

SECOND HALF: 
  • An early layup and three-point jumper by Hakanson and Uggen gave Tech it's only lead, 37-33, of the third quarter with 8:53 to go
  • Tigers would take their largest lead of 11 in the final 1:23 of the quarter off a fast break layup and a free throw to end the period, 55-44.
  • Consecutive three pointers by Hakanson and Roney open the fourth quarter to decrease the deficit to 5.
  • Both teams exchanged buckets for the next five minutes until the Tigers scored eight unanswered points with 2:31 to go.
  • 16 free throws in the final 1:45 pushed the Tigers to the win.
 
NOTABLE PANTHERS:
  • Uggen led with 26 points and three rebounds on 10-16 shooting.
  • Hakanson ended with 20 points, four rebounds, five assists, and five steals.
  • Roney went 5-9 on shooting recording 17 points and five assists.
  • Aiste Vaitekunaite posted a team high six rebounds.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • West Alabama finished the game shooting 44.0% (22-50) from the field and 36.4% (4-11) from three. Tech ended the contest at 38.2% (26-68) shooting and 45.2% (14-31) beyond the arc.
  • Free throws were the biggest factor in the loss with the Tigers making 37-46 (80.4%) from the line while the Panthers hit on just 9-10 (90.0%) attempts.
  • Panthers had a 12-11 advantage in steals, while West Alabama led in rebounds (50-26)
  • Teams tied a total of seven times, while the lead changed just four times.

UP NEXT: Florida Tech opens at home on Tuesday Nov. 16 against Flagler. Tip-off is set for 7:00 PM.
