MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – In a battle of head coach versus former assistant coach, it did not go in favor of Coach
Val Silvestrini as the Panthers fell 5-2 and 1-0 in a doubleheader against the Bucs.
Cheyenne Nelson and
Mikayla Lewin both recorded multiple hits while
Jolie Miracle (1-3) had a run and
Emily Figueroa tallied one hit, one run and an RBI.
Jordan Lawlis (2-3) and
Samantha Guider (1-2) both had complete games with six innings pitched. Lawlis in her appearance allowed five runs, three earned, on nine hits with seven strikeouts. Guider put together a good performance as she gave up one run on four hits and struck out two.
Game one began with strong fielding efforts from both teams as the first run did not cross the plate until the bottom of the third when the Bucs had three runs score.
Tech answered in the top of the fifth as a two-out rally powered by Figueroa and Nelson at-bats helped
Jolie Miracle and Figueroa cross the bag and make it a 3-2 contest. Unfortunately, in the bottom half of the fifth, the Bucs scored two runs of their own and made it a three-run Panthers deficit again.
Both teams continued to push, but neither managed another run for the rest of the first game as it ended in a 5-2 loss for Florida Tech.
Game two sees the Bucs strike first again, this time in the bottom of the first off a single to right field. Despite many chances on both sides included a bases-loaded situation for the Crimson & Gray in the top of the fourth inning neither managed another run and the game ended 1-0.
The Panthers finish their four-game series with the Bucs Saturday, March 27. This home doubleheader begins at 3 p.m. ET on Nancy Bottge Field.
