Lady Panthers Sweep Day One of Florida Tech Invite

Florida Tech completes the comeback against Wingate and run-rules Bentley in first day of FT Invite

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
GAME ONE:
Final: Florida Tech 3, Wingate 2
Records: Florida Tech (3-2, 0-0 SSC) | Wingate (4-1, 0-0 SAC)

STATS OF THE GAME:
  • Wingate wasted no time scoring two runs in the first inning, but the Panthers cut the lead in half with a two-out RBI single by Jolie Miracle.
  • Mikayla Wessel ripped it to center field sending two to the plate for Tech to pull ahead, 3-2, in the 6th inning.
  • Alex Hendrian recorded three strikeouts against three walks in four innings of work.
  • Samantha Guider pitched three innings in relief of Hendrian, allowing just three hits against one walk in her third win of the season.
 
 
GAME TWO:
Final: Florida Tech 12, Bentley 4
Records: Florida Tech (4-2, 0-0 SSC) | Bentley (0-2, 0-0 NE10)

STATS OF THE GAME:
  • Highlighted by Victoria Szrom's two-run homerun, Panthers put four runs on the board in the bottom of the 1st.
  • Bentley answered back with two 2-run homeruns in the top of the 3rd to tie it up, 4-4.
  • Tech scored five runs in the bottom of the 3rd to lead once again. Ashley Campbell kicked it off with an RBI double to the fence. Campbell advanced to third on a ground out and scored off a single by Wessel. Szrom recorded a 2-run double and Ella Chang Gibson blasted an RBI double to left field advancing the lead, 9-4.
  • Panthers added two more to the board in the bottom of the 4th with a 2-run (one unearned) double from Wessel.
  • Mya Ogbodiewgu wrapped up the scoring for the Panthers as they run-rule Bentley for the win.
  • Alex Hendrian collected the win in the circle improving to 3-2 on the season.
  • Wessel recorded 3 hits, 3 RBI, and 2 runs on 3 plate appearances.
  • Szrom finished with 2 hits, 4 RBI, and 2 runs on 3 plate appearances.
  • Campbell, Wessel, Szrom, and Gibson each recorded a double.
 
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • This was the first meeting against Wingate and Bentley. Panthers are now 1-0 all-time against both teams.
  • Szrom's homerun was the 7th of her career and first of the season from any Panther.
  • This was the first run-rule win for the Panthers in the 2022 season.
 
 
UP NEXT: Florida Tech Invitational continues at the Launch Pad Sports Complex tomorrow Saturday, Feb. 12. Tech will take on Saint Anslem at 11 a.m. and Wingate at 1:30 p.m.
