Softball Sweeps Doubleheader for First Two SSC Wins

STATS OF GAME ONE:
  • Panthers scored three in the top of the 4th, highlighted by Alex Hendrian's two-run double down the right field line.
  • In the top of the 5th, Cheyenne Nelson hit her second double of the game and advanced to third on a wild pitch. A Jolie Miracle single through the right-side plated Nelson, taking a 4-0 lead.
  • Bucs' answered back with a sacrifice fly RBI to get on the board.
  • With two on base, Mikayla Wessle's RBI single gave the Panthers their fifth run in the top of the 6th, 5-1.
  • Fighting for the comeback, Sofia Chamorro blasted a two-run double to left center in the bottom of the 6th. Bucs' cut the Panthers lead, 5-3.
  • After Bucs' battled back, Panther defense finished strong earning their first SSC win of the season.
  • Kelsie Rivers earned the win in the circle (2-1), allowing three hits and three runs to go with two strikeouts.
 
STATS OF GAME TWO:
  • Alex Hendrian was the story in game two, picking up her first complete game shutout of her career. Hendrian only allowed two hits and one walk on two strikeouts.
  • With two outs in the top of the 3rd Mikayla Wessel singled, advanced to second on a Cheyenne Nelson single then stole home for the only run of the game.
  • Panther defense turned a double play in the bottom of the 7th to secure the win.
 
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Panthers move to 28-95 all-time against Barry.
  • Mikayla Wessel moves up to third all-time in career stolen bases in Panther Softball history with 64.
  • Cheyenne Nelson went 4-7 on the day with two extra-base hits and two runs.
 
 
UP NEXT: Florida Tech travels to St. Augustine on Tuesday, Feb. 22 for doubleheader against Flagler. First pitch is at 4 p.m.
