Softball Takes Series with Doubleheader Sweep of Mocs

STATS OF GAME ONE:
  • Panthers got an early run on the board on a RBI groundout from Chloe French.
  • Samantha Guider retired 9 of Mocs' first 10 batters.
  • Bottom of the 5th, Tech added two more. Ashley Campbell took a hit by pitch, Whitney Ellis followed with a double to left field to plate Campbell. Two batters later, Ellis scored on a sacrifice fly from Cheyenne Nelson.
  • Tech's final run came in the 6th on a RBI sacrifice fly by Victoria Szrom.
  • Attempting a 7th inning rally, Mocs's were able to put up two but ultimately came up short.
  • Mocs' two runs came on a bases-loaded fielder's choice and a RBI groundout.
  • Guider (10-6) threw a complete game allowing five hits, two runs, and one walk on three strikeouts.
 
STATS OF GAME TWO:
  • Game two started off quick with four Panther runs in the first inning. Highlighting the inning was a three-run homerun over the left field wall by Ella Gibson.
  • Two innings later, Gibson singled to left field taking second on the throw, plating Mikayla Lewin to advance the lead, 5-0.
  • Bottom of the 6th, with runners on the corners, Whitney Ellis doubled but was tagged out a third. Ellis's at bat scored Mya Ogbodiewg and Peyton Anders.
  • Gibson went 3-3 with one run and three RBI.
  • Alex Hendrian (8-6) threw a complete-game two hit shutout allowing just one walk on three strikeouts.
 
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • The Panthers move to 33-96 all-time against the Florida Southern Mocs.
  • Cheyenne Nelson ended her hitting streak at 22 consecutive games.
  • Ella Gibson's homerun was her first in a Panthers uniform.
  • Alex Hendrians complete-game shutout was her fourth of the season.
 
 
UP NEXT: Florida Tech is back at Nancy Bottge Field for a three-game series against Lynn, with game one slated for Friday, April 1st at 6 p.m.
