Women's Soccer Edged by Bucs in SSC Opener

Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla.  - Florida Tech's conference opener was a road match against Barry University. The Panthers battled, but ultimately fell short 1-0 in their first trip to Miami Shores since 2019.

STATS OF THE MATCH:
  • Barry Dempsey for the Buccaneers had the first real look at goal with a shot just over the crossbar from outside the box in the 17'.
  • In the first half, Barry outshot Florida Tech 6-1, with Panthers Goalkeeper Maria Recuero Sanchez making two saves.
  • Natalia Lima in the 50' opened the scoring for Barry with a left-footed shot inside the box that curled into back of the net.
  • In the 85', Florida Tech had its best chance of the match on a cross that found the foot of Jessica Cravero who hit the crossbar with her attempt at goal.
  • In total, the Panthers were outshot 10-5 by the Buccaneers.
  • Cravero and Cristina Garriga each had two shots for Florida Tech.
  • There were zero yellow cards given out to both teams.
  • Barry had three corner kicks, while Florida Tech had two on the night. 
  • Morgan Miller logged the most minutes of any field player for Florida Tech, playing 77 minutes.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • Florida Tech drops to 8-9-8 all time against Barry.
  • The Panthers last win in Miami Shores was Nov. 3, 2017 in the SSC Semifinals.
  • Tonight's loss marked the third consecutive season the Panthers dropped their SSC opener.
 
 
UP NEXT: The Panthers will be back in action Saturday Sep. 17 for a home conference match at Rick Stottler Field against Nova Southeastern. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
