Panthers Fall in a Close Match at Florida Southern

Florida Tech drops to 2-2 in the SSC

 

MELBOURNE, Fla. - For its fourth conference match of the season Florida Tech traveled to Florida Southern. The Panthers threatened to score all evening, but ultimately could not find the back of net leading to a 1-0 loss to the Mocs.  

INSIDE THE MATCHUP: 

Final: Florida Tech 0, Florida Southern 1 

Records: Florida Tech (4-3-1, 2-2 SSC) Florida Southern (5-1-3, 2-1-1 SSC) 

Location: Berend Field | Lakeland, Fla. 

STATS OF THE MATCH: 

  • In the first half, Florida Tech outshot Florida Southern 11-1. 

  • Despite having multiple opportunities to score, the Panthers and Mocs were tied at halftime. 

  • In the 62' the Panthers committed a foul inside the box, which led to a successful penalty kick from Angelina Coelho that decided the outcome. 

  • Despite the loss, Florida Tech outshot Florida Southern 21-3. 

  • Seven of the 21 shots for the Panthers were on goal.  

  • Cristina Garriga threatened to score all night, leading the Panthers with seven shots. 

  • Two yellow cards were given to the Panthers while the Mocs were assessed one. 

  • Corners kicks were almost even on the night with the Mocs having four and the Panthers earning three.  

  • In what was a physical game, Florida Tech committed 12 fouls while Florida Southern committed 11.  

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE: 

  • Florida Tech drops to 13-8-5 in the all-time series against Florida Southern.  

  • The Panthers last win in Lakeland was October 31, 2017, which was a 2-1 win in the SSC quarterfinal.  

  • After the loss, Florida Tech sits in a tie for fifth place in the SSC standings. 

  • Florida Tech has been shutout four times this season.  

UP NEXT: The Panthers will be back in action with a home match Saturday Oct. 1 against Tampa. Kickoff for the conference matchup is scheduled for 7 p.m.
