Tech Earns Seventh Shutout of Season Against Tampa

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Florida Tech women's soccer team rolled to a 2-0 shutout win, the Panthers seventh of the season, Saturday night on the road.

STATS OF THE MATCH
  • The Panthers got the offense going early, with Marem Ndiongue and Josefine Nilsen forcing the Spartans keeper to make two saves in the seventh and ninth minutes of the match.
  • Tampa threatened in the 20th minute with a shot from Brooke Steigerwalt, but Ayana Aoyagi came up with the save to keep the match scoreless.
  • Both teams battled for possession for the next several minutes.
  • In the 38th minute, Savannah Oxley found the back of the net off an assist from Kajsa Ekstrom to put the Panthers up 1-0.
  • Tech had another opportunity in the closing minutes of the half after Eve Tiktikakis found some space, but her attempt sailed just off target and the teams went into halftime with the 1-0 score.
  • In the 54th minute, Ndiongue smashed a shot past Tampa's keeper to give Tech a 2-0 lead.
  • Both defenses locked in for the next several minutes with no more shots until the 73rd minute when Tampa looked to score, but Jalyssa Richardson's shot was off target.
  • After another battle for possession, Sara Batchadji had an opportunity to score in the 89th minute, but the Spartans keeper came up with the save and the match ended with a score of 2-0.
     
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Florida Tech moves to 5-13-8 all-time against Tampa.
  • Tech has now won three road matchups in a row against the Spartans.
  • Ayana Aoyagi has now recorded back-to-back shutout wins.
  • Marem Ndiongue's goal has moved her into a tie for seventh in all-time career goals scored in Panthers history with 18.
