Florida Tech Cruises to Third Straight Win

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Florida Tech women's basketball team cruises to their third straight victory with a 94-50 win over UPR-Rio Piedras.
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final: Florida Tech 94, UPR-Rio Piedras 50
Records: Florida Tech (3-4, 0-0 SSC), UPR- Rio Piedras (0-2)
Location:  Charles and Ruth Clemente Center| Melbourne, Fla.
 
FIRST QUARTER:
  • Florida Tech opened the game, going on a 6-0 run. Dalma Ehmann tallied two layups, while Kyandra Poitier made the first jumper of the night.
  • A fast break layup gave UPRRP their first basket of the night just after the six-minute mark.
  • Teams traded baskets for the next four possessions to make it 10-6 Tech with 3:59 to go.
  • The Panthers went on a 9-5 run with five points coming off of free throws by Deirdre Miller, Divine Guthrie, and Olivia Stephens.  Miller and McKenzie Winder posted layups to end the quarter.
 
SECOND QUARTER:
  • UPRRP opened the second quarter with a made jumper nine seconds in.
  • Emily Acampora answered back with a three-pointer to extend Tech's lead to nine.
  • UPRRP cut Tech's lead down to five, going on a 6-2 stretch thanks to a three-pointer, a free throw, and a layup.
  • Gaining some momentum, Breazia Robinson kicked off Tech's 17-1 run with a layup.
  • The first 2:21 stretch was powered by baskets from Remintyn Smith, Jessica Lange, and Emily Acampora.
  • Tech went scoreless for 1:21 before finishing off the 17-1 stretch on a step-back jumper, a three, and a layup.
  • UPRRP closed out the half on a free throw. Tech led 41-21 going into the break.
 
 
THIRD QUARTER:
  • UPRRP opened the quarter with the first three points on a layup and a three-throw.
  • Smith responded with her first three of the game.
  • Teams traded baskets for the next for the next two minutes to make it 48-28.
  • The next 3:45 saw the Panthers go on an 13-0 run. Lina Stranger-Johannessen got it started with a basket from the charity stripe.
  • The 13-0 run continued with a a pair of free throws and two layups from Lange, a point from the line by Liberatore, and a jumper by Acampora.
  • UPRRP ended Tech's run with a triple in the right corner by Jaymar Montanez.
  • Tech responded with 11 points over the final 2:48 of the quarter thanks to six points from Acampora, a pair of free throws from Divine Guthrie, a Liberatore free throw, and a jumper by Robinson to give Tech a 70-31 lead.
  • Daneishk Ayala made a layup at the buzzer to add two points for UPRRP.
 
FOURTH QUARTER:
  • Stranger-Johanessen got things started in the fourth quarter, scoring seven on back-to-back threes and a free throw.
  • UPRRP went basket for basket with the Panthers to make it 84-39 with 5:07 to go.
  • Panthers scored six straight before UPRRP went on their first run of the game, scoring nine straight over 1:41.
  • Guthrie ended their run on a layup off an offensive rebound, 92-48 with 58 seconds remaining.
  • A made jumper for UPRRP added two before Miller closed out the game with two free throws to give Tech the 94-50 win.
 
NOTABLE PANTHERS:
  • Emily Acampora led Florida Tech in scoring with 22 points, going 8-15 from the field, 4-8 from beyond the arc, and 2-2 at the line. She also added four rebounds, two assists, and one steal.
  • Divine Guthrie hit double figures, construing 15 points along with four rebounds and two assists.
  • Jessica Lange posted a season-high 12 points with eight rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one block.
  • Tai Roberts had a game-high four steals along with six rebounds.
 
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • Florida Tech moves to 10-0 all-tine against UPR-Rio Piedras.
  • This was their first meeting since Nov. 25, 2014.
  • Tech finished the game shooting 46.5% (33-71) from the field, 53.8% (7-13) from beyond the arc, and 70% (21-30) on free throws.
  • UPR-Rio Piedras shot 27.5% (19-69) in the contest, 10.78% (4-37) from the three-point range, and 61.5% (8-13) from the line.
  • Florida Tech held the advantage in rebounds (56-35), points in the paint (48-26), fast break points (17-12), second-chance points (20-3), and bench points (70-11).
 
UP NEXT: Florida Tech returns to action on Friday when they travel to the ERAU Thanksgiving Classic to take on North Greenville. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
