Panther Women Fall in Final Four

MATTHEWS, N.C. – The Florida Tech women's soccer fought to the very end in their Final Four match against Point Loma but dropped the match, 3-0, to the Sea Lions.

STATS OF THE MATCH
  • Point Loma started the match off with a shot on target in just the fourth minute, but Ayana Aoyagi was able to safely make the save.
  • The Sea Lions got off four more shots over the next 15 minutes, but none made it past Aoyagi.
  • Savannah Oxley put the first shot on goal for Tech in the 27th minute, but the Point Loma keeper knocked the ball away to keep the game knotted at 0-0.
  • Both teams went back and forth trading shots and possession, but the backlines and keeper of both teams remained steady.
  • In the 36th minute, Lauryn Wood sent a pass forward towards Sara Batchadji who was streaking towards the goal. Batchadji was clear of her defender and stretched out for the one-timer but the ball was out of reach by just a few inches and safely scooped up by the Sea Lions' keeper.
  • The teams exchanged a few more shots each but went into halftime tied at 0-0.
  • Just two minutes into the second half, Point Loma got on the board with a second-chance goal by Alana Diaz who placed her shot off the left post and into the back of the net to make it a 1-0 match.
  • After some more back and forth for the next few minutes, Josefine Nilsen looked to tie things up in the 65th minute with a rocket from just inside the box. The Sea Lions' keeper made a leaping save to hold onto the lead.
  • Point Loma tacked on two more goals in the 82nd and 87th minutes as insurance and the match concluded with a score of 3-0.
  • The Panthers got 15 shots off with nine on target in the match.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Florida Tech moves to 7-7-8 all-time in the NCAA Tournament. (Seven for eight in penalty shootouts).
  • This was the first-ever meeting between Tech and Point Loma.
  • This was the second-ever Final Four appearance for the Panthers after they fell to Grand Valley State in 2010, 2-0.
 
This concludes the season for the Panther women. The team finished the year with a 17-3-3 overall record and an 8-1-1 SSC record.
