Roberts scores 17 as PBA Defeats Florida Tech

MELBOURNE, Fla.- The Florida Tech women's basketball hosted the Palm Beach Atlantic (PBA) Sailfish Saturday afternoon at the Clemente Center in which the Sailfish defeated the Panthers by a score of 76-65. Tai Roberts lead all Panthers in points with 17 going 5-8 in field goals and 6-6 at the line in free throws.
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

FIRST QUARTER:
  • Trailing by five to start the game, Dalma Ehmann got the Panthers on the board with a jumper.
  • Tech would bring the game to within one following a two-point shot from Tai Roberts to make it 8-7, PBA.
  • With Tech trailing 13-7 two back-to-back threes from Emily Acampora helped tie the game up at 13-13.
  • Following a series of fouls from both PBA and Tech, the panthers would go 3-4 on there next free throw opportunities while the Sailfish went 2-2.
  • After the first, the Panthers would lead 16-15.
 
SECOND QUARTER:
  • Following the first quarter, PBA scored first in the second to regain the lead 17-16.
  • The Sailfish would later go on a 6-point run to make it 24-19, Sailfish.
  • Following a two pointer from Ehmann and a three from Lina Stranger-Johannessen the Panthers tied the game back up at 24-24.
  • PBA took the lead for the final time in the half at 26-24.
  • Going into halftime the Crimson and Grey would trail 30-27.
 
THIRD QUARTER:
  • Following halftime, the Sailfish pushed their lead to five following a jumper from inside the arch.
  • Tech would answer with a three before PBA made two field goals to go up 36-30.
  • As the Panthers trailed 39-33, he women slowly attempted to edge their way back.
  • PBA would gain its largest lead 49-40 with 4:17 to go in the third quarter.
  • Down by nine Tech would score seven unanswered points with a layup and free throws from Ehmann and Roberts each to come back within two at 49-47.
  • The Sailfish pushed ahead 53-47 before a three pointer from Aiste Vaitekunaite put the Panthers back within three.
  • The Sailfish then scored on a layup to put the Tech down 55-50 going into the final quarter of play.
 
FOURTH QUARTER:
  • The Sailfish came out of the third hot, outscoring the Panthers 10-3 in the first four minutes giving PBA a 65-53 lead.
  • Following two-point baskets from both Grace Speer and Ehmann the painters only trailed by eight, 65-57, with 4:49 to go in the game.
  • Roberts three with 2:04 left brought Tech back to within six at 68-62 PBA.
  • In the final two minutes, PBA went 8-8 at the line to finish out the game, defeating Tech 76-65.
 
NOTABLE PANTHERS:
  • Roberts, Vaitekunaite and Acampora all finished with double-digit points.
  • Stranger-Johannessen finished with seven rebounds, most on the team.
  • Acampora sank four three pointers and had three steals for the Crimson and Grey.
  • Roberts led the team in points (17) and assists (7).
 
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • Florida Tech is now 29-8 in the all-time series against Palm Beach Atlantic.
  • PBA shot 55.1% from the field (27-49), while Tech made 32.8% of it's shots (20-61)
  • The Sailfish made 47.1% of their threes (8-17), with the Panthers made 33.3% of their threes (9-27)
  • PBA was a perfect 14-14 at the line of free throw attempts. As the Panthers went 16-24 at the line.
  • Throughout the game there were four times in which the teams were tied and six lead changes.
 
UP NEXT: Florida Tech will next travel up I-95 to Embry-Riddle University where they'll take on the Eagles at the ICI Center in Daytona Beach, Fla. On Wednesday, February 15th at 5:30 PM.
