Panthers Softball Splits Against Spring Hill & #5 North Georgia to Close Out the Weekend

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
GAME ONE:
Final: Florida Tech 4, Spring Hill College (Ala.) 3
Records: Florida Tech (3-2, 0-0 SSC) | Spring Hill College (Ala.) (0-5, 0-0 SIACC)

STATS OF THE GAME:
  • A bases loaded walk in the bottom of the 2nd inning, allowed Spring Hill to plate one run.
  • The Panthers bats came alive in the 5th inning, scoring three runs on four hits.
  • Kelly McLaughlin bunted and scored Ella Niles from third base.
  • Cheyenne Nelson grounded out to second base, but Polak was able to plate another run.
  • Layna Pollock singled right back to the pitcher driving in McLaughlin from third base.
  • Spring Hill put up two runs on three hits in the bottom of the 5th inning to tie things up 3-3.
  • Miranda Schawartz doubled to center field and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt from Ella Gibson.
  • Polak came up with a timely hit with a single to right field scoring Schwartz from third base to give Florida Tech a 4-3 lead.
  • Allison Platon picked up her first win of the season after throwing three innings, allowing no runs, one hit.
  • Mary Polak went 2-3 at the plate with one RBI and one run. Polak also recorded her first stolen base of the season.
  • Miranda Schawartz also went 2-3 with one run.
 
 
GAME TWO:
Final: Florida Tech 2, #5 North Georgia 8
Records: Florida Tech (3-3, 0-0 SSC) | #5 North Georgia (2-1, 0-0 PBC)

STATS OF THE GAME:
  • North Georgia scored one run on one hit in the 1st inning and tacked on six more runs on five hits in the 2nd inning to take a commanding 7-0 lead.
  • In the 3rd inning, Makayla Lewin's singled scored Nelson and McLaughlin.
  • North Georgia would take on one more run in the 5th inning off a homerun.
  • Madilyn Dutton suffered the loss in the circle for Tech.
  • Mikayla Lewin went 2-3 at the plate with 2 RBI's.  
 
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • The Panthers are 3-0 against Spring Hill College and 1-2 versus North Georgia.
  • Ella Niles made her debut in game one and recorded her first stolen base.
 
UP NEXT: Florida Tech hosts the Panther Invitational at Soldier's Creek in Longwood, Fla. beginning Friday, Feb.10. The Panthers will face West Florida and Wingate at 1PM and 3:30PM.
