Senior Day Sweep for Panther Softball

MELBOURNE, Fla - Florida Tech softball honored seven graduating seniors before sweeping Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday afternoon.

Game One Final: Florida Tech 3, Palm Beach Atlantic 1

STATS OF GAME ONE:
 
  • Both teams went three up, three down in the first inning.
  • Panthers were able to create some action in the bottom of the third, scoring one run.
  • Back-to-back hits by Kelly McLaughlin and Cheyenne Nelson to lead off the third inning put the Panthers in scoring position.
  • Next at bat was a sacrifice bunt by Layna Pollock to advance McLaughlin and Nelson.
  • Mikayla Lewin followed with a sacrifice fly out to put Tech on the board and score McLaughlin.
  • Bottom of the fifth saw two more runs for Tech.
  • Allison Platon got Tech started with a single. McLaughlin reached on a fielder choice, while Platon beat the throw and was safe at second.
  • Pollock walked for bases loaded. Lewin singled to shortstop, sending McLaughlin home.
  • McLaughlin at third came off the bag, forcing a run down play, A throwing error by PBA allowed for McLaughlin to reach home and extend the lead.
  • PBA's lone run came in the sixth, on a single to single field.
  • Platon retired PBA down the line to end the game and secure the win.
  • Platon  threw a four-hit complete game with five strikeouts and no walks.
 
STATS OF GAME TWO:
 
  • Game two got off on a quick start for the Panthers, scoring in the first.
  • Pollock singled to third to get on base. Lewin hit it to the pitcher, who turned to get Pollock out at second.
  • Jolie Miracle's hard-hit single to left center pushed Lewin to third. Miracle, looking to steal, forced a run-down that allowed Lewin to score.
  • PBA tied it up 1-1 in the top of the third.
  • With two on base, Evoni Rodridguez singled to shortstop, sending Gracie Mullett home.
  • With the next batter singling, PBA had bases loaded, but the Tech defense was able to get out of trouble with a groundout to close the inning.
  • Tech answered back in the bottom of the third, scoring three.
  • Back-to-back singles by Nelson and Pollock put the Panthers in scoring position. Both stole to advance to second and third.
  • Lewin's hard hit to left center scored both runners. Two batters later Chloe French singled to right center to score Lewin and take the 4-1 lead.
  • Sam Guider threw a complete-game allowing just five hits and one run on one strikeout and two walks.
  • Chloe French went three-for-three in game two.
 
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
 
  • The Panthers move to 37-29 all-time against the PBA Sailfish.
  • Mikayla Lewin extended her on-base streak to eight games.
