Women’s Soccer Falls to Montevallo in Regional Semis

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Florida Tech women's soccer team battled with Montevallo in the Second Round of the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Tournament. A late goal for the Falcons downed the Panthers and eliminated them from the Tournament.

STATS OF THE MATCH
  • Tech got the first shot of the match off in just the eight minute off the foot of Nora Oldmark. Her attempt was on target, but the Montevallo keeper came up with the save.
  • Just over 10 minutes later, the Falcons looked to take the lead, but Lainey Farabaugh's shot rang off the post.
  • After some back and forth with possession, Rebecca Storr took a shot at the net for the Panthers, but once again the Falcons' keeper was able to make the save.
  • Tech continued to apply pressure in the remaining minutes of the half. The Panthers put three more shots on target in the final 10 minutes before halftime, but were unable find the back of the net and the match remained scoreless.
  • Fairbaugh put another shot off the post, seconds into the second half, but the ball was knocked safely away by the Panthers.
  • In the 54th minute, Ximena Jauregui sent a deep shot towards the goal, but it was just high and off the crossbar.
  • After some back and forth with possession, Marta Llopis sent a shot into the box in the 79th minute, but it was stopped by the Falcons.
  • Two minutes later, with the ball bouncing in the Panthers box, Morgan Goehring took a rip at the net with the ball and put Montevallo up 1-0.
  • Tech battled to get a shot off in the remaining minutes. With under one minute left to play, Lauryn Wood fielded the ball in the box and looked to knot the match up, but her shot was just stopped by the Falcons keeper and the match ended with a final score of 1-0.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Tech moves to 3-4-2 all-time against Montevallo and 0-1-0 in the teams' first meeting in the postseason.
  • The Panthers conclude the 2024 season with an overall record of 13-3-3, the SSC Regular Season title, and the SSC Tournament title.
