Panthers’ Turnovers Lead to Loss in Lakeland

LAKELAND, Fla. –  The Florida Tech women's basketball team ended their road trip with a loss to Florida Southern, 72-55.
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

FIRST QUARTER:
  • The Panthers got off to a strong start with an opening possession score from Breazia Robinson.
  • After back-to-back Florida Southern baskets, Robinson again made an impact, tying the game at four apiece.
  • Tech took their first lead on Tai Roberts' three-pointer halfway through the first quarter.
  • The Mocs had a 5-0, then Robinson helped the Panthers stay one possession back going into the next quarter down 13-11.
 
SECOND QUARTER:
  • Florida Southern began the second quarter on a 7-0 stretch, halted on another Robinson mid-range jumper, making her 4-for-4 on the afternoon. She was also fouled and made the free throw.
  • Down 24-16, the Panthers offense heated up with five minutes remaining in the half. Kyandra Poitier grabbed an offensive rebound and immediately put it back into the hoop. Nadine Johnson followed with a shot from beyond the arch after a turnover by the Mocs.
  • With three minutes remaining, Mikayla Morin made two tough baskets, helping the Panthers enter the locker room dead even at 30-30.
 
THIRD QUARTER:
  • The momentum of the end of the first half did not carry over as Florida Southern outscored Tech 26-8.
  • Jessica Lange scored her first two points of the season, coming off injury on a turnaround jumper.
 
 FOURTH QUARTER:
  • Florida Southern kept it going in the fourth, tallying the first three points on free throws.
  • Tech fought back with a Morin made free throw and a Johnson driving layup generated from her steal on the defensive end.
  • However, the Mocs rattled off eight straight points, taking a 23-point lead.
  • An Emily Acampora three-pointer led to a Panthers' eight-point run, which was topped off by an Acampora second-chance jumper.
  • The Panthers wrapped up the game with the final four points from the charity stripe. However, the Panthers would lose the game 72-55.
NOTABLE PANTHERS:
  • Breazia Robinson and Tai Roberts finished with nine points, leading the team. Robinson was 50 percent from the floor and grabbed five rebounds and a steal. Roberts had three rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
  • Kyandra Poitier compiled eight points and led the team with nine rebounds.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • The Panthers are 40-54 all-time against the Mocs.
  • Emily Acampora's three-pointer in the fourth quarter was the 109th of her career, moving her into 10th all-time in Florida Tech history.
