Tech Shuts Out NSU on the Road

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Florida Tech women's soccer team used a second-half score from Marta Llopis to defeat the Nova Southeastern Sharks, 1-0, in a non-conference road matchup.

STATS OF THE MATCH
  • The match started with a battle for possession by both teams. The Panthers put the first shot on goal in the 18th minute, but the Shark's keeper was able to make the save.
  • NSU applied some pressure with back-to-back shots on target late in the first half. Kaitlin Sinkler came up with both saves to keep the match scoreless.
  • In the 41st minute, Sofia Posner found some room in the box, but the shot fell into the arms of the keeper and the teams went into halftime tied at 0-0.
  • Ximena Jauregui looked to put Tech on the board in the 54th minute, but once again the Shark's keeper was able to secure the ball.
  • The battle for possession continued for the next several minutes. The Panthers broke through in the 76th minute after a bouncing ball found Marta Llopis, who deposited a shot past the keeper and put Tech on top 1-0.
  • The Panthers continued to control the ball and only allowed one more shot the rest of the match to earn the team's first shutout win of the season.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Florida Tech moves to 5-8-1 all-time against NSU.
  • This was the Panthers' first win on the road in Fort Lauderdale, since Nov. 8, 2021.
  • Marta Llopis notched her second goal of the season. Both have been game-winners.
 
UP NEXT: The Panthers will return to the confines of Rick Stottler Field on Wednesday, Sept. 25 for their Sunshine State Conference (SSC) opener against Rollins. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Melbourne, Fla.
